France top country for UK buyers
17 September 2009
France has emerged as the leading country for Britons buying overseas, new figures have revealed.
International mortgage firm Conti has revealed that its own statistics point to the country as accounting for 31 per cent of customer enquiries so far this year, putting it ahead of Spain on 22 per cent.
The combined total of 53 per cent for the two countries compares with 29 per cent in 2008, something Conti said is proof that international property seekers are concentrating on trusted markets and not emerging ones.
France was pointed to by the firm as having a more secure banking system than most countries, with a more cautious lending history meaning that 100 per cent mortgages are possible to acquire.
