France is the favourite expatriate destination

France remains Britons' favourite destination when they move to live as expatriates.
New research from Halifax International has revealed the preferred countries for British expatriates and found 16 per cent settled in France.
James Gairdner, marketing and product director at Halifax International, says: "European countries are popular amongst British expatriates living abroad, with France topping the polls, followed by Spain".
Travel between the UK and France has never been easier, thanks to the high-speed rail link between London St Pancreas and Paris, which has cut the journey time between the capitals by 20 minutes.
The editor of French Property News, Karen Tait, explained that Brits favoured France both for retirement and for starting a new life abroad.
"Expats in France rarely feel isolated - if anything, they complain about being inundated with family and friends, all eager to visit them in their new French home," she said.
