Expats could get Sunday shopping in France
07 August 2009
British expatriates living in France could soon be enjoying shopping on a Sunday following a decision in the country's parliament.
Town mayors and the mayor of Paris, Bertrand Delanoe will now be able to propose tourist zones in which shopping can take place.
Previously, reports English language newspaper, the Connexion, the ruling was set to remove the mayor of Paris' control over the decision.
However, the conseil constititionnel said this was unlawful, leaving him the right to decide.
Mayor Delanoe had described the exception as a "real denial of democracy" and vowed to not turn the capital into a "big city of 24-hour-a-day seven-days-a-week consumption".
